According to a recent WalletHub report, this year the average U.S. household is expected to spend $86.79 on Halloween expenses, from decorations to treats to costumes. I know in my neighborhood downtown Jersey City, most neighbors buy 10-15 bags of candy at about $10/bag just for the trick-or-treaters.  Nationwide, that’s over $9 billion.

And if you’re counting on getting more free treats in return for your costume investment, you’ll definitely want to be heading toward Jersey City where some folks have some many trick-or-treaters they shut down the street.

Jersey City ranked #2 in the nation out of 100 cities, according to the WalletHub report. WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities based on 20 key metrics that ranged from costume stores per capita to average price per Halloween party to share of potential trick-or-treat stops.

The top Halloween cities in the U.S. are:

  • #1 New York, NY
  • #2 Jersey City, NJ
  • #3 Los Angeles, CA
